Join Mrs. Degnon as she digs in the dirt on Wednesdays! You should be ready to plant seeds, dig gardens, plant flowers, and learn about the science of plants. You will help create a garden at the school, take home your own plants that you started from seeds, and even do a few crafts. If possible, please bring your own gardening gloves in a shopping bag each week.

Students will be encouraged to place these rocks in a location of their choosing.

Exploring our Hometown · Katie Lane
As an extension of our fall Civic Club, this winter club will explore our hometown. Students will meet Clarks Summit mayor Herman Johnson, other public officials, and community and business leaders. Weather allowing, we might walk from CSE to the firehouse, C.S. borough building, or other community locations. Children must be capable of safely waking on sidewalks in town, with adult supervision, and should be properly dressed to walk even in cold weather.

Students will learn basic Sign Language in a fun way through music and games to expand their comprehension and understanding of Sign Language and the Deaf community. By the end of this session, students will have a greater knowledge of how to use Sign Language but also a greater appreciation of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community at large.

Our Community · weekly guests
Our first ever Civics club invites different guests every week, incl. local physicians/nurses/EMTs, firefighters, police officers, teachers, and advocates. Students will hear from different professionals in the community about what they do and how it helps others.

Special guests include CMC surgeon (and CSE alum) Dr. Erin Miller, sign language interpreter Hannah Hart from The Scranton School of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, C.S. firefighters, area police officers, and police dog Wyatt. We will also have one or more firetrucks and police vehicles.

This month’s theme: Outer Space! Students will learn about theater through acting games and exercises. We will talk about stage direction, work on vocal projection, facial expressions and physical acting. At the end of the 4-week session, we will perform a short variety show including jokes and short skits. This will be held outside at pickup time. Families are welcome to attend and should bring their own bag chairs or plan to stand.
